The structural composition of manual plug-in valve

Feb 12, 2026

The structure composition of the manual gate valve

Valve body/frame: The main supporting structure of most valves is usually made of carbon steel, stainless steel or cast iron. There are two common diameters: circular and square. The pipe connection uses flanges or welding interfaces, and an actuator movement guide rail is installed inside. The entire structure withstands the medium pressure and fixes all the components.

Gate (Blade): The core components for opening and closing are usually metal plates (mostly made of stainless steel), some of which have knife-shaped edges to facilitate the cutting of the medium; the full opening and full closing of the channel are achieved through up and down/lateral movement, and the surface is often polished to ensure the sealing and fit with the valve seat; some gates have a hole that matches the diameter.

Valves and sealing systems

Valve seat: Fixed on both sides of the valve body channel, in contact with the gate plate to form a sealing pair; Soft sealing rubber, PTFE, or hard sealing between metal surfaces.

Sealing gasket and sealing material: Used for the dynamic seal at the valve stem protruding part to prevent the leakage of the medium;

Connecting gasket: Used for static sealing between the valve body and the surface of the pipe flange.

Manual drive and transmission components

Handwheel: A component made of cast iron, plastic or aluminum used for manual rotation operation;

Piston (valve stem) and nut: Convert the rotational motion of the handwheel into the linear reciprocating motion of the gate plate;

Bearings/Guide sleeves: Reduce friction during the rotation of the screw, ensuring stable movement;

Valve cover: Close the upper transmission mechanism to create a protective chamber.

Fasteners and auxiliary components: Pins and lock pieces used for positioning and preventing loosening, including bolts and nuts for connecting flanges, some of which are equipped with dust covers to prevent dust from entering the transmission mechanism.
